ABOUT ME

Hello students and parents! I am so excited to begin this year teaching at École Mother Teresa! I am the grade 6 and 7 French immersion and social studies teacher. I also teach grade 6 gym, grade 6 health and a few option courses.

Why French?

The French language is such a gift and I believe that by enrolling your kids in immersion you are doing them a great service and setting them up for success. I learned French through k-12 in immersion in Kelowna, BC. Upon grade 12, I studied French at RDC and at the U of A where I obtained my Education Degree with a major in French. French will be one of your child’s greatest asset as they get older and although at times, your child may struggle with the language just know that there is hope for them; I myself struggled learning French through k-12 and I didn’t come from a bilingual home. I am truly grateful to be teaching such a bright group of grade 6’s and 7’s they have brought me so much joy during these first few months of school and I look forward to a great year growing and learning together en français!

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

 What is a good teacher?

A good teacher believes in the future and sees the best in students.

A good teacher should challenge students, support students and be there for students. A good teacher should be a leader, a guider and be eager to learn. A good teacher should be confident, caring, compassionate, creative, dedicated, sympathetic and has the heart of a servant. A good teacher should be firm and have high expectations. A good teacher is an advocate for students and a role model but is far from perfect. A good teacher teaches to each individual student, is engaging and can motivate a student when no one else can. A good teacher can not only make students think but question. A good teacher helps students develop an identity, their own opinions and perspectives. A good teacher does not judge, does not stereotype and does not hold grudges. A good teacher is always looking for ways to improve and become a better teacher.
